Scholar’s clinical approach with survivors is grounded in the most current evidence in trauma-informed and victimization-focused care. Every practitioner who works with survivors at Scholar brings specialized training, genuine compassion, and a deep understanding of the complex ways that victimization shapes the mind, the body, and the capacity to trust.
Treatment is never rushed. It is never formulaic. And it is never one-size-fits-all. Your care will be developed collaboratively with you — at your pace, in your direction — honoring both your clinical needs and your own sense of what healing means for you.
Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)
The foundation of every clinical interaction at Scholar for survivors. Trauma-informed care means that every conversation, every assessment, every treatment decision is conducted with a deep and consistent awareness of how trauma shapes behavior, emotion, cognition, and the capacity to engage in care. It means creating an environment of safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment — where healing becomes possible because the conditions for it are genuinely present.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A structured, evidence-based approach that addresses the relationship between trauma, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors — helping survivors identify and challenge the distorted beliefs that victimization often leaves behind, and develop healthier patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding to the world.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
An evidence-based treatment specifically designed for PTSD that involves gradual, supported exposure to trauma-related memories and situations — reducing avoidance, decreasing distress, and helping survivors reclaim parts of their life that trauma has restricted. PE has one of the strongest evidence bases of any PTSD treatment available.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
An evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma that focuses on helping survivors identify and challenge the ‘stuck points’ — the unhelpful beliefs about themselves, others, and the world that develop in the aftermath of trauma. CPT helps survivors process what happened in a way that restores a balanced, accurate sense of self and the world.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
The evidence-based standard for trauma treatment in children and adolescents — combining trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral principles to address the impact of victimization on the developing brain, emotional regulation, identity, and behavior. TF-CBT is delivered in collaboration with the adolescent’s family wherever appropriate and available.
Seeking Safety (SS)
An evidence-based, present-focused treatment for individuals experiencing co-occurring trauma and substance use — addressing both simultaneously by helping survivors develop safe coping skills, establish stability, and build the foundation for deeper trauma processing. Seeking Safety recognizes that trauma and substance use are deeply intertwined and treats both with equal clinical attention.
