Scholar Philanthropy

A Gift to You

“The highest purpose of business is to give back to the world.”

At Scholar, we believe that quality behavioral health care is not a privilege reserved for those with the means to access it. We believe it is a right — and that when life disrupts that access through no fault of a person’s own, something important and human is lost.

Scholar Philanthropy: A Gift to You was created to bridge that gap. It is our formal commitment to ensuring that acute economic hardship does not become a permanent barrier to the kind of care that changes lives. It is not charity. It is not a discount. It is a partnership — one in which Scholar invests 60% of every service and you invest 40%, because we believe your healing is worth our full commitment and your own.

This program is one of the most meaningful expressions of everything Scholar was built to be. It is where our founding philosophy — that the highest purpose of business is to give back to the world — becomes not simply a statement but a living, breathing commitment to the individuals and families we serve.

Scholar Philanthropy:

A Gift to You is offered in the same spirit as everything else Scholar does — with clinical excellence, genuine care, and the unwavering belief that every person deserves the opportunity to heal.

A Partnership, Not a Program

Most reduced-rate programs feel like what they are — a lesser version of care for those who cannot afford the full price. Scholar Philanthropy is something fundamentally different. Every Gift to You recipient receives the same clinical excellence, the same evidence-based care, the same warmth, and the same dignity as every other Scholar client. The only difference is the financial arrangement.

Scholar invests 60% of the cost of every approved service. You invest 40%. Together, we invest in your healing — because that is what this program is built on. Not pity. Not charity. Partnership.

SCHOLAR INVESTS 60% of every service

YOU INVEST 40% of every service

This applies to every service you are approved for through the program — including individual therapy, trauma treatment, addiction support, coaching, pre-marital counseling, and couples counseling. And it applies to the clinical assessment as well — which all applicants complete at 40% of the standard assessment fee.

Who This Program Is For

Scholar Philanthropy: A Gift to You was created for individuals who are experiencing acute economic hardship due to a qualifying life disruption — and who are navigating a mental health challenge that falls within Scholar’s areas of expertise and scope of services.

This is a program for the person who had stability and lost it. For the professional who is between positions and cannot access their previous benefits. For the individual navigating a medical crisis that has drained their resources. For the parent holding everything together after a family emergency that left nothing in reserve. For the person who does not qualify for financial assistance programs but has fallen through every other crack.

If that is you — or someone you love — Scholar Philanthropy exists for exactly this moment.

To be considered for Scholar Philanthropy: A Gift to You, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

✔  Are experiencing acute economic hardship due to a qualifying life disruption — including job loss, medical crisis, family emergency, disability onset, business failure, or similar circumstances

✔  Present with a diagnosis of a mental health condition as defined by the DSM-5 — as determined through Scholar’s clinical assessment process or documented proof of a pre-existing DSM-5 diagnosis from a qualified provider

Program Duration

The Gift to You Program provides a six-month allotment of services at the co-investment rate. At the conclusion of your six-month allotment, a clinical reassessment will determine the most appropriate next step — which may include renewal of your program allotment, transition to standard rates, warm referral to community resources, or discharge with a comprehensive aftercare plan. Every decision is made collaboratively, with your clinical needs and circumstances at the center.

"Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission. A limited number of spots are available at any given time. Qualified applicants who are not immediately admitted will be placed on Scholar’s confidential waitlist and notified promptly when a spot becomes available."

How to Apply

The application process for Scholar Philanthropy: A Gift to You is designed to be straightforward, dignified, and completely confidential. We have made it as simple as possible — because the last thing someone navigating hardship needs is a complicated process standing between them and care.

1

Complete the Confidential Application

Submit Scholar’s brief online application — including information about your current circumstances, the nature of your hardship, what you are hoping to address through the program, and documentation of financial need. All information is held in the strictest confidence and reviewed only by the Scholar team.

2

Submit Diagnostic Documentation (if applicable)

If you have documented proof of a pre-existing DSM-5 diagnosis from a qualified provider, submit this with your application. This satisfies the diagnostic eligibility criterion and allows you to proceed directly to the assessment step without an additional diagnostic evaluation.

3

Complete the Clinical Assessment

All applicants complete Scholar’s clinical assessment — conducted by a Scholar licensed clinician — at 40% of the standard assessment fee. The assessment determines your current clinical picture, level of care, and most appropriate service placement. This is not a test. It is a conversation — and it is the beginning of Scholar getting to know you.

4

Receive Your Decision

Scholar will communicate a decision within 48 to 72 hours of receiving your completed application and assessment. If you are admitted to the program, you will receive a warm welcome and be matched with the right clinician and service for your needs. If the program is currently at capacity, you will be placed on Scholar’s confidential waitlist and notified as soon as a spot becomes available.

5

Begin Your Journey

Once admitted, your six-month program allotment begins. You will receive the same clinical excellence, the same personalized care, and the same genuine commitment to your well-being that defines everything Scholar does — at the 40% co-investment rate.

A Note from Scholar

We want to be transparent about something that matters to us deeply. Scholar Philanthropy: A Gift to You is not a public assistance program. It is not a community mental health service. And it is not designed to replace the important work that community mental health systems do for individuals with complex, long-term needs.

It is a carefully considered philanthropic commitment — designed for a specific and genuinely underserved population: individuals who had stability, experienced disruption, and need focused, high-quality support to find their footing again. We have designed it this way not because we believe any person is less deserving of care, but because we believe in being honest about what we are best equipped to provide — and directing every person toward the level of care that will serve them most.

If you reach out to Scholar Philanthropy and we determine that your needs would be better served by a different level of care or a different system, we will tell you honestly, compassionately, and with specific referrals to resources that can help. That is not a rejection. It is Scholar doing what Scholar always does — putting your well-being first.

"Every person who applies to Scholar Philanthropy will be treated with the same warmth, dignity, and respect as every other person who walks through Scholar’s doors. Your circumstances do not define your worth. And they will never define the quality of care you receive from us."
